A common request we get from customers is, “I’m looking for a cookbook to give as a gift, and I want it to have something to do with Nashville.” Luckily, Parnassus has no shortage of those, and we’re delighted to report that there’s a brand-new one on the shelves now from local foodie-writer Nicki Pendleton Wood: Southern Cooking for Company.

unnamedDon’t miss her interview with our friends at Chapter16, where she talks about her dual career as a writer and a mammographer (really!) and says:

What I want most is for people to “have company over.” Gather people together any way you can—it’s good for your soul, it’s good for neighborhoods, it’s good for your city. Sociability prolongs your life — it’s true! Bring people together, even if it’s just a couple of friends. Southern Cooking for Company has recipes for every kind of host, whatever the entertaining style. I tend to invite people impulsively, so I gravitate toward a single “wow” dish and a few simpler (or even store-bought) dishes.

Because we love cookbooks and we love cake and we love YOU, Musing readers, we’re sharing one of our favorite recipes from the book. This Peach Almond Pound Cake just may be the most perfect cake for summer. [Download the recipe here.] Taking advantage of our seasonal Southern harvest, it’s a dessert that goes perfectly with a little vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or nothing at all. Race you to the Peach Truck!
